Captain's Log: The third trailer for the new Star Trek movie is making the rounds, and can be seen on the official site. This trailer does show that this is likely to be an impressive action movie, on a scale beyond at least the more recent Star Trek features. What else it is remains to be seen--starting in early May. Conspicuous absences in this trailer: Nimoy's Spock, the new Scotty's hair.
The Kepler spacecraft that will search for Earth-like worlds was successfully launched. Here's an eyewitness report. Latest news from Mars: the planet had running water recently--meaning within the past million years.

I've just finished watching the fourth season of Doctor Who on DVD, and am gearing up for a long post on that, and related Whovian matters.

Also: TrekCore, an invaluable site for photos and other archives, is holding a month long fundraiser. Learn how you can help them stay on the web here. Such archives are disappearing while theirs are expanding, and they aren't asking for a lot to keep going so check it out.

I wrote an interesting description for a tutorial I did on Spock. It was quite interesting reading about his past, and how he became to be a part of the USS Enterprise. The tutorial that I drew was on Spock and I think that if there is Trek fans out there this would be a really cool experience to teach yourself how to draw one of the classic characters of our time. Here is the link to the page, I hope this post doesn't get deleted because I truly am a Trekkie now and want to share what I have done to all of you that come here on this awesome Star Trek blog site. http://www.dragoart.com/tuts/1908/1/1/how-to-draw-spock-from-star-trek.htm

Does anyone know what who the author of the painting is in "Star Trek the Undisocered Country": When Spak is in his courters talking to the new Vulcan ensin and there is a painting on the wall depicting "the Fall from Paradise." Spak says he keeps it there, to remind him that all things end . . .

The painting is by Marc Chagall, and I write about this scene in my essay on Star Trek VI, later on this blog.
